Let’s Bootstrap this Sucker

We are a couple of days into 365 Days of Passport, and it’s time to give you a preview of our plans to grow.

The first step of our plan is a little counter-intuitive, specifically in the current market climate. Step one is to stay bootstrapped for all of 2018. We want to prove that even in a heavily VC-funded space like CIAM, you can build a better mousetrap without taking any money. We want to prove that bootstrapped companies can compete with the the others who have $50M in the bank.

You might be wondering why this matters to you. You just need a way to register and login users, and you want to use a third-party solution instead of building it yourself. You could pick a solution that is well known or that recently closed a large VC round and has been spending millions on marketing. It might even be easier to sell one of those solutions to the decision makers.

Before you do that (or even if you already have), here are a few reasons to consider Inversoft:

  • We aren’t in the business of acquiring customers at all costs. We don’t have investor meetings or reports to file, and therefore we don’t need to add 100 new customers each quarter. We want to work with customers that are fun and excited to work with us.
  • We are 100% owned by our founders and employees. This means there can’t be a forced exit. In 2017, there was at least one forced exit in the CIAM space. While this may have helped reduce the financial losses for the VCs, it screwed over customers in a big way.
  • We are lean and mean. We can deliver new features in days, not months or years. We know that big, VC-funded companies often move at a snail’s pace and are focused on acquiring customers so fast that feature requests are ignored.
  • We aren’t going anywhere. Inversoft has been in business for 10 years and we have no plans to close. We aren’t low on cash and don’t need infusions of capital every few years to cover an unsustainable burn rate.

This all comes with some caveats. Since we are bootstrapped, we aren’t racing to the bottom. If you look around, it might seem like other solutions are free. While it seem like they are free, that is rarely the case. We believe that you truly get what you pay for. That’s why our software isn’t free, but it is high-quality and backed by a company that believes in it. This also means you won’t be treated like just a number. Our customers are part of the Inversoft family and we understand our customers are a fundamental part of our business.
