FAQ

Here are a number of frequently asked questions about the Inversoft Profanity WebService.

How fast is your WebService?
This will depend on network latency between your servers and ours. However, once your request enters our servers it can be processed in as little as 10 milliseconds. This time will also depend on the size of the message, the type of filter you are using and the configuration you send across (including ratings and categories).

One of our main focuses is on performance and we have a large set of tests that are regularly run against the filter to ensure it is running as fast as possible.
How reliable is your WebService?
Last year our WebService had only 1 hour of downtime and so far this year it hasn't been down at all. If for some reason you experience problems with the WebService, feel free to contact us directly and we'll address your problem immediately.
How do I sign up?
You can now sign up online. Just select your plan and you can be up and running in minutes. Our list of WebService plans is available here. You can also contact Inversoft directly to discuss other options including our deployable WebService product. We can be reached via email at info@inversoft.com or toll-free at 1-888-423-7814.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes. Inversoft provides trial accounts for anyone looking to test the WebService prior to purchasing. You can also use our online demo to get a sense for how the WebService will filter content. If you would like to sign up for an evaluation account, simply click here.
What's the difference between the hosted and deployable WebService?
Our hosted WebService solution resides on Inversoft's servers and is managed by Inversoft. This means that each request to the WebService must go from your servers, across the Internet, to Inversoft's servers. This can increase latency if there are any network problems between your servers and ours. Often these types of network problems are out of your control and ours.

In addition, most of our base hosted packages are shared servers. This means that you are sharing a server with other customers and depending on the amount of traffic the WebService is recieving at any point in time, your request might take longer to process. However, we also offer dedicated hosted servers if you need that type of performance.

Our deployable WebService solution resides on your servers inside your data center. This means that you have control over the servers and can also include these servers in monitoring systems you already have in place. Furthermore, requests to the WebService don't go across the Internet. This can improve performance by reducing latency. It also means that any network problems that might arise are completely with your control.
Should I by the filter and database or use the WebService?
This depends on your specific needs. If you need a central location that can host the filter where multiple applications can access it, you should use the WebService (either hosted or deployable). If you want the highest level of performance and can integrate our Java API into your application, the filter and database are the best solution.
How does Inversoft's WebService compare to other solutions?
To answer this question, we have created a comparison matrix that covers the major differences between the Inversoft solution and our competitors.
