FAQ

Here are a number of frequently asked questions about the Inversoft Profanity Filter.

Does the filter product include the database product?
No. You must purchase licenses for each product separately.
Can I use my own database?
Yes. However, the filter has been written to work best with the Inversoft Profanity Database. Consult the JavaDoc for the filter to learn how to implement the ProfanitySource interface and use your own database.
How is your filter different than other solutions?
Our filter uses a number of techniques not found in other solutions to increase performance and reduce false positives. These features make our filter more than just a word matcher. Our filter is capable of finding profanity that most other filters miss.

Check out our comparison matrix for more information.
Can I just write my own filter?
Yes. You can purchase the Inversoft Profanity Database and build your own filter. However, filtering complex content is very challenging and writing a filter that will find complex cases such as t..h i...s or t ][ i $ can be very time consuming. Our filter will not only find these cases but can find them in a matter of milliseconds.
What languages is the filter written in?
Currently, we only provide a Java filter. We are planning on building a filter in C# later this year.
How many licenses do I need?
The Inversoft Profanity Filter is licensed per application. In most cases, you will just need a single license. However, if you have multiple applications, building applications for numerous clients or want to be a reseller, you will need to purchase a license for each application.
